Welcome to all choir members. I hope you have all found some sunshine in the long summer break.
A retrospective thank you for all my end of term gifts. The chicken swing (still be studiously ignored I’m afraid) is an entertaining addition to Winsley Pastures. Vouchers and money purchased a new summer wardrobe for me, I look forward to picking out a Plum tree this September and of course beautiful flowers to brighten the house.
Before we look ahead to a new year of singing together I wanted to reflect on some choir highlights of 2015/2016
September – moving into our new venue in Devizes.
October – Bringing a bit of Africa to Alton Barnes in the first singing and drumming workshop.
December – Spine-tingling Taize at St Mary Tory and a wonderfully atmospheric Christmas Concert at Edington Priory.
March – Fab food and great rhythms for second Africa workshop at Cooper Hall and singing in a West Gallery church as part of a super Spring Gathering at Biddestone.
April – Raising the roof at the Calne Spring Sing.
May – Rocking an appreciative crowd at a sunny Urchfont Scarecrow Festival.
June – Recording our first CD in a heatwave.
July – Dodging showers and hard work paying off at Sing for Water West in Bath. We raised £1,762.50 – one of the largest amounts of money. Wonderful acoustics in the Saxon Church at the first Singing the Seasons workshop in brilliant sunshine in Bradford on Avon.
Looking ahead I realise it is the ninth year of Sing Alive (crikey, where did that go?). I have chosen lots of great new songs to sing and we’ll be revisiting some old favourites. We will publishing our first CD (more news of this soon) and there are extra opportunities to sing at a series of workshops throughout the year. One date for your Winter diary – our Christmas concert is on Saturday December 10th – an evening event in the United Church Bradford on Avon.
I’m looking forward to this being a splendid singing year.
